An all- India examination which evaluates candidates on their comprehensive understanding of the various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science, GATE is co-ordinated by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore along with the 7 IIT’s. The score of this exam is used to select candidates for admissions to Masters’ and Doctorate programs in the higher education Institutes in India. Year after year, hundreds of students appear at the various centers to sit for the online examination.

Examination details

GATE is offered in 22 disciplines and each candidate is allowed to write only one subject of their choice. To know whether your preferred branch is one of the offered ones, you can access the Information Brochure released by IIT- Kharagpur every year. This online brochure is hosted at http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/docs/ib.pdf . Since the choice is limited to one subject, students are advised to think well before making a decision. The question paper contains numerical and theory questions. General aptitude is weighted for 15 marks in all the papers, while the total marks are of 100 marks.

Eligibility criteria and application process

The application process is conducted online and the applications for GATE 2015 commenced on September 2014. The Eligibility Criteria for GATE generally is that all candidates must have completed undergraduate studies. This can be viewed on the brochure as well.

GATE 2015 Rank Card

Once the results are announced on March 12th 2015, the rank card for GATE 2015 can be downloaded from the results page itself which is hosted at http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/. This score card contains the actual marks obtained by the candidate, the GATE score, the Percentile score, and the All India Rank (AIR). Scorecards are also sent to the candidates. Only the qualified students will receive the score cards. Other students will not be intimated in anyway.
